So I had a goal this week......I was going to make dinner every night and I was going to do all my shopping for those meals on Monday. Well today is Friday and I did it! Now, I cook all the time and I usually make a family dinner at least 3 times a week, but I thought it might be more economical to only go to the store once the whole week. And it was, I just hated being tied down to these 5 meals. But what really wore me out was the constant complaining...."WHAT is this...it looks gross"...."Mom why did you make this, you know I hate shrimp"......."Do I HAVE to eat my salad".
And tonight....the last night of my weekly meal plan....I lost it. Paul came home and said he was going to the Jazz game with his friends, so he wasn't going to eat. The kids eyed the shrimp casserole I had made with squinty disgusted eyes. Even I didn't feel like eating it, I had been thinking about it for five days. So after watching my children take tiny nibbles and then act like they were going to barf.....I dumped the whole thing in the garbage and started to cry and said that none of them appreciated me......but the kids had already left when they saw me turn around and dump it, so poor Paul got yelled at. He didn't do anything really, I was just mad (and on my period) so bad luck for him. But he's at the game right now so don't feel too bad. And I just finished making Nicks Birthday cake and I know he will appreciate that.
So in the end I don't think I will do anymore weekly meal plans....I don't know what I was thinking.

I know my bff all too well. How did I know you would scrap that plan after a week? Back to the daily shopping trips, eh?
I feel your frustration though. But, my kids are young enough to just bribe them into eating everything I make.
You have totally summed up my cooking life. I feel like I spent most of the meal time "forcing" my kids to eat delicious food. After a week of frustration on my part, this week our dinners consisted of macaroni, hot dogs, fish sticks and chicken nuggets. All foods that no kids will complain about. I'll try to get my energy up to cook some meals that Matt and I will actually enjoy next week because there are very few that our WHOLE family can peacefully enjoy.
Grace is gorgeous. What a great goal. You need to teach me a few tricks. What day do you want to play this week?
DOn't give up! I have eaten some of your cuiliary delights and I would hire you in a minute to cook for me!!!! Kids sorry to say are ungreatful for all the effort and "finess" we put into a meal, happy with mac a cheese for the rest of thier life sort of belief, go forth and educate them to the better things! SHRIMP YUM!!!!
I got your back! and your left overs if you lived closer! OH YUM!
Don't quite now! It will get better. I have just started posting a weekly menu and it is going quite well (not perfect, but well). I let the kids choose one meal and when River yells out "Shrimp" we then discuss how we should cook the shrimp and what sides could go with it and are we covering the various food groups. River exspecialy loves this. and then we have it all typed out and taped to the fridge. I also do a lot of trial recipes so the kids get to give their two cents on those recipes . . . This feedback has actualy been quite useful.
I will be happy to pass on some of my menus to trade your some of yours. =)
